Dr Nick Mouktaroudis is the newest face to the Mannum Medical Centre, but will be finishing his time here in Feb 2008.
Next week Dr Ung Wong will finish his 10 week cycle, Good luck with your future plans
Dianne CARR (Medical Student Flinders University)
I will be based in Mannum until November 2006, training at Mannum Medical Centre as a major part of my Year 3 studies.
I moved from Adelaide to Mannum in January 2006 with my husband Gino, 2 cats and 2 dogs, and am very much enjoying my time here.
My long term plan is to train as a rural General Practitioner, with my husband and I both keen to live in a rural area.
Outside of work and study I enjoy spending time with family and friends and gardening when I get the chance.
Those
of you who have visited the Medical Centre recently would have noticed our
changes – we now have another consulting room, our nurses have more room (I
think) and Terry and I have moved
into offices “downstairs”.
We are quite comfortable downstairs in our lovely new offices and we have
our own staff lunch/meeting room as
well
One
of our Nurses Helen Sandercock has unfortunately moved on
and we have certainly been sad to see her leave, but wish her well in her
new environment .One man’s loss can be another man’s gain.
Next
we have two Registrars to replace Firoza – firstly Lian who will be here full time – by that we mean working 4
days a week with 1 day off for study – Lian and his young family will be
living here and we welcome them into our community.
Then
we have James who will be working two days a week -
Monday and Tuesday – James works in an Adelaide Clinic for the
remainder of the week and has a past history of having been a Chiropractor
before beginning his studies for medicine.
Also
Ethan who was here before is coming back in February to continue his studies and
will be working two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays – and the remainder
of the week Ethan will be working elsewhere.
We certainly welcome back Ethan as he was particularly liked by our
younger patients.
So a warm welcome to all our new recruits and we ask if you would
also please do your best to make them welcome into our Practice and
community and support them during their stay with us.
Mary
Underwood
Practice Manager

July 2005
Winter is upon us and I feel sure you will all agree the rain has been wonderful and nice to see our rain water tanks all running over. With this of course comes the flu season so if you have not had your flu vaccine yet may I remind you flu vaccine is still available free for those aged 65 years and over. Please enquire with our receptionists should you wish to avail yourself of this service.
Unfortunately July will see Dr Emma Ryan leave us – Emma has been with us for the past 6 months and we have enjoyed her presence, however her term has come to and end and we wish her well as she continues her medical career whilst being closer to her family in Adelaide.
Dr Firoza Khan however has agreed to stay a further six months with us so we are very pleased to have her stay on at least until January next year when she should complete her Rural Registrar term. Firoza has become very popular with our staff and patients and we are very please to have her continue her training here in Mannum.
We have had Medical Students come and go and we look forward to welcoming two Medical Students from Holland. Janneke and Tanya will be arriving the second weekend in July and will be at the Practice from 11th July until 19th August. This is a first for us to have students from over seas and we are looking forward to showing them our Practice in Mannum. I understand they have finished all their training and will start in a Hospital on their return to Holland.
From 18th July until 29th July we will also have a 3rd year Medical Student from Flinders University – Daniel who will be here for two weeks and again we look forward to showing off our practice to him.
Also during July we will have Dr Moore away on leave for approximately 6-8 weeks and other Doctors are taking some well earnt time off at various stages and we ask for your patience during the time that we do not have our full work force, so please understand that other than emergency appointments your waiting time may be a little longer. We will still have an emergency Doctor rostered on every day so if you could please respect these appointment times for emergencies you will help to make life a little easier for our receptionists as they try to juggle appointments to suite everyone.
Free Flu Vax & Pneumococcal
Flu Season is looming again - We have free flu vaccines in stock for those aged 65 years and over – if you wish to avail yourself please book your appointment now for one of our Flu Vax Clinics starting 14th March.
Clinics to be held daily 1:30pm- 2:30pm
These Clinic’s are for your flu vaccine only so if you have any medical concerns etc. you should book a normal appointment with your Doctor.
Here we are past the festive season again and well into the throws of 2005 and some changes at the Medical Centre again.
First we say farewell to Diem who has completed her Advanced Registrar term with us, along with Kate and Craig who have completed their six month Subsequent Terms. They have all made a valuable contribution to the Practice during their stay and we wish them well as they continue their individual medical careers.
Now for the in-comings - firstly Monday 17th January we will have Nicholas Farinola who is a third year medical student from Flinders University who will be here for the following 2 weeks until 28th January 2005.
We also have two Registrars joining the team – Dr Firoza Khan who will be a Registrar and will be here working in the Practice full time and will be staying in Mannum with her husband. Dr Emma Ryan is also a Registrar who will be working at the Practice on Mondays and Tuesdays. We welcome these two new Doctors and hope you will support them as well as our previous Registrars have been to our Practice.
Later in February, actually from 14th February until 25th March we will have a 4th year Medical Student here at the Practice for six weeks. Gemma Baines is also from Flinders University. We ask for your patience with these medical students as they learn in our Practice, but remind you that you do have the right to refuse their presence at any time if you so wish, but at the same time we like to try to provide them with as much exposure of General Medicine as possible, with hopefully the idea they may some day end up in rural General Practice and service rural areas where Doctor shortage is so prevalent.
THE BABIES

Marcus (Dr Kylie Booth's baby) Ellouise ( Dr Sonia Schutz & Terry's baby) Shelby ( Kirstie's baby)
We are proud to announce that we have passed our
re-accreditation. This is a major
achievement and is a clear demonstration that we are constantly improving our
level of service to the community. Accreditation
is only attainable through the cooperation and communication amongst staff
members. Everyone in the Practice
plays a valuable role in working to meet the standards.
This is one way of communicating to our patients their well being is our
priority. Accreditation is only
attainable by meeting certain standards as set down by the RACGP
which are then assessed by a team who visit the Practice
to ensure that these criterion have been met.
It
is with sadness that we have to say “goodbye” to Dr Kylie Booth – Kylie
has been with us for some time now and has endeared herself to all staff and
patients. She has also been
instrumental in the instigation and forming of our Youth Clinic, which is still
being held every Tuesday afternoons 4-6pm. We wish her well for the future.
On
July 9th we also see the end of the term for Dr Ethan Tieu. Ethan has been with us for the past 12 months and has
also become very popular and will be greatly missed. Ethan is moving on to Yankalilla Practice to complete his
studies and he certainly leaves with our very best wishes for the future.
Now
for some incomings - Dr Diem
(pronounced Yim) Dang will be here
from 28th July until 18th January next year to complete
her Advanced term as a Registrar – we hope you will offer her the same support
as Ethan and look forward to her working with the Practice.
We
will also have two other Subsequent Registrars to consult at the Practice.
Dr
Kate Nielson who lives in the Adelaide hills will be consulting here on Mondays
and Tuesdays. Kate has a young
family but is committed to her continuing medical careeer and will commence the
first week in August.
Dr
Craig Wheeler is another subsequent Registrar who lives in Adelaide and will be
consulting here on Wednesday afternoons and all day on Fridays.
Craig also works at the Air Force Base and will be dividing his time
between here and the Base and will also commence working at the practice during
August.
We
welcome all these new doctors to the Practice and look forward to them becoming
part of our “team” and hope you too will welcome and support them during
their stay with us. They are
initially all committed to the Practice until January next year.
If
you have not had your “flu shot” yet it is not too late – we still have
some vaccine on hand for those who qualify for the “free” vaccine, aged 65
years plus.
With
the new Strengthening Medicare as advertised on television the Practice is now
“bulk billing” all patients under the age of 16 years.
21st June will see the return of Paddy who was a 3rd year Med Student last year – he is now in his 4th year and will be with us for 6 weeks from 21st June until 30th July. Once again we ask that you make him feel welcome as he has returned to further his studies with us.
Flu Season is looming again - We have free flu vaccines in stock for those aged 65 years and over – if you wish to avail yourself please book into one of our Flu Vaccine Clinic’s to have your "flu shot" asap.
These Clinic’s are for your flu vaccine only so if you have any medical concerns etc. you should book a normal appointment with your Doctor.
We have another Medical Student, David Holt, visiting us from 29th March – 8th April. He is a 3rd year Medical Student from Flinders University and will be staying in Mannum during his placement. We hope you will make David welcome during his placement with us.
May will see Dr Peter Joyner take a well earnt break – he will be away all of the month of May as well as the first week in June. We will have a Locum by the name of Dr Evan Markwick who will be here from 9th – 22nd Mary and we trust you will support him whilst he is here to help the other Doctors in the Practice during Dr Joyner’s absence.
Sadly 20th July will see Dr Ethan Tieu leave us – he will have been here for the past 12 months and we have thoroughly enjoyed his company and he has endeared himself to many patients – we certainly wish him well as he moves on to complete his Mentor Year at another Practice.
We will have another Registrar in her Advanced Year to replace Ethan and she will be here until January 2005. Dr Diem Dang – so please welcome her here to our Practice to ensure her stay is a memorable one for the right reasons.
We hope you have all had an enjoyable festive season and now it is on to 2004.. 11months till Christmas.
We will have a Medical Student by the name of Sam Rice working at the Medical Centre from Monday 5th January until Friday 13th February 2004/ Sam is a 4th year Medical Student with the Flinders University and will be with us for 6 weeks work experience. Sam and his wife and three young children will be staying in Unit 2 Joyner Place and we hope you will make them feel welcome and support Sam during his stay here at Mannum.
Youth Clinic will now be held every Tuesday afternoon from 4pm until 6pm on a roster basis with
Drs Kylie Booth, Stephen Napoli, Sonia Schutz and Rebecca George attending.
This session is designed especially to allow the youth of our community confidential access to medical services.
Dr Sonia Schutz will be away from the Practice for 3 weeks from 12th January until 30th January inclusive providing Locum coverage to the Royal Flying Doctor base at Broken Hill. You may remember Sonia
came to us from there and she will be returning to help out during the holiday season and I am sure will renew
some old acquaintances.

Dr Peter Joyner, Dr Stephen Napoli and our Practice Manager Mary Underwood were delighted to show our facilities to a group of medical students from Flinders University. A lovely day was enjoyed by all who attended.
